يستخدم زمن الماضي البسيط (Past simple) للحديث عن الأحداث التي اكتمل حدوثها في الماضي، أي قبل وقت الكلام، وهناك عدد من الأدوات، أو الكلمات المفتاحية، والدلائل الخاصة بزمن الماضي البسيط، والتي نستعرضها في هذا المقال،[١][٢] إلى جانب الأمثلة التوضيحية في جمل:[٣][٤]


Yesterday

تعني Yesterday: البارحة/أمس/يوم الأمس، ومن الأمثلة عليها في زمن الماضي البسيط:

My sister and her children visited our parents yesterday and spent the whole day with them.
قامت أختي وأطفالها بزيارة والدينا يوم الأمس وقضوا عندهم اليوم بأكمله.
I forgot to submit my assignment yesterday and had to apologize to the teacher.
نسيت تسليم الواجب بالأمس واضطررت إلى الاعتذار للمعلم.
Jack wasn't in his room yesterday morning.
لم يكن جاك في غرفته صباح الأمس.
Her mother gave her 50$ yesterday.
أعطتها والدتها 50 دولارًا البارحة.
My friends and I watched our favorite movie yesterday evening.
شاهدت أنا وأصدقائي فيلمنا المفضل مساء الأمس.
Yesterday, the police arrested the thief who robbed the jewelry store.
البارحة، اعتقلت الشرطة اللص الذي سرق محل المجوهرات.


a (week, month, year) ago

تعني ago "قبل"، ومن الأمثلة على استخدامها مع الكلمات ذات الدلالة الزمانية (week, month, year) في زمن الماضي البسيط:

Mary and Peter got married a week ago and moved to a new city.
ماري وبيتر تزوجا قبل أسبوع وانتقلا للعيش في مدينة جديدة.
I quit my job a week ago and started looking for a new one.
استقلت من وظيفتي قبل أسبوع وبدأت البحث عن وظيفة جديدة.
I attended Jane's birthday party a month ago in a luxurious restaurant.
حضرت حفلة عيد ميلاد جين قبل شهر في مطعم فاخر.
They moved to a new apartment a month ago and bought new furniture.
انتقلوا للعيش في شقة جديدة قبل شهر واشتروا أثاثًا جديدًا.
My friend's parents spent a vacation in Japan a year ago and visited many beautiful cities there.
أمضى والدا صديقي إجازة في اليابان قبل سنة، وزارا العديد من المدن الجميلة هناك.
He worked on this project a year ago and got promoted because of it.
لقد عمل في هذا المشروع منذ عام وحصل على ترقية بسببه.


last (week, month, year...etc)

تعني last هنا "الماضي"، ومن الأمثلة على استخدامها مع الكلمات ذات الدلالة الزمانية مثل: (week, month, year) في زمن الماضي البسيط:

My family celebrated my aunt's birthday last Sunday.
احتفلت عائلتي بعيد ميلاد عمتي يوم الأحد الماضي.
I went on a picnic to the countryside last weekend.
ذهبت في نزهة إلى الريف في عطلة نهاية الأسبوع الماضي.
She submitted the assignment last night.
لقد سلمت الواجب الليلة الماضية.
The employee started a new job last month.
باشر الموظف العمل في وظيفة جديدة الشهر الماضي.
He volunteered at the local library last year.
تطوع في المكتبة المحلية العام الماضي.
My sister bought her friend a gift last week.
اشترت أختي هدية لصديقتها الأسبوع الماضي.


the day before yesterday

تعني the day before yesterday "أول من أمس/أول أمس/أول البارحة/قبل البارحة"، ومن الأمثلة عليها في زمن الماضي البسيط:

I had a delicious lunch at a new restaurant the day before yesterday.
تناولت غداءً لذيذًا في مطعم جديد قبل البارحة.
He was late for the meeting the day before yesterday because he had a car accident.
لقد تأخر عن الاجتماع قبل الأمس لأنه تعرض لحادث سير.
The students finished the project the day before yesterday and submitted it on time.
أنهى الطلاب المشروع أول أمس وقاموا بإرساله في موعده.
My friend went on a vacation to the mountains the day before yesterday to relax his mind.
ذهب صديقي في إجازة إلى الجبال أول أمس من أجل الاسترخاء وتصفية ذهنه.
We had a big family gathering the day before yesterday.
حضرنا تجمعًا عائليًا كبيرًا أول البارحة.
I lost my bag the day before yesterday and had to buy a new one.
أضعت حقيبتي أول أمس واضطررت لشراء حقيبة جديدة.


(days, months, years) ago

Mr. Smith and his family moved to a new city six months ago and bought a big house there.
انتقل السيد سميث وعائلته إلى مدينة جديدة قبل ستة أشهر واشتروا منزلاً كبيرًا هناك.
I started my own business nine days ago and I'm making good money.
بدأت مشروعي الخاص قبل تسعة أيام وأنا أكسب جيدًا.
The employee got a promotion two years ago and now has more responsibilities.
نال الموظف ترقية منذ عامين وقد أصبح الآن محملاً للمزيد من المسؤوليات.
My friends had a reunion three weeks ago and it was wonderful to see everyone.
أقام أصدقائي حفل لم شمل قبل ثلاثة أسابيع وكان من الرائع رؤية الجميع.
Sally quit her job five months ago and decided to start her own business.
استقالت سالي من وظيفتها قبل خمسة أشهر وقررت أن تبدأ مشروعها الخاص.
I traveled to Spain four years ago and visited a lot of beautiful places.
لقد سافرت إلى إسبانيا منذ أربع سنوات وزرت الكثير من الأماكن الجميلة.
