تعد أفعال to be من أهم الأفعال في اللغة الإنجليزية والتي تستخدم في معظم الجمل وفي كثير من الحالات، وتأتي في حالات النفي، والإثبات والسؤال وقد يجد متعلمو اللغة الإنجليزية صعوبة في استخدامها، وسنرى في هذا المقال العديد من الأمثلة التوضيحية التي تبين استخدامات الفعل to be في حالاته المختلفة.
استخدام الفعل to be
يمكن لأفعال to be أن تكون فعلاً رئيسياً Main Verb في الجملة أو فعلاً مساعداً Helping Verb وتساعد في تكوين الأسئلة، ويأتي to be في عدة حالات وفي أزمنة مختلفة:
1- الفعل to be كفعل رئيسي في الجملة
مثال:
She is happy.[١]
هي سعيدة
They are very clever.
إنهم أذكياء جداً
My mother is a doctor.
إنّ أمي طبيبة
2- الفعل to be كفعل مساعد في الجملة
عندما يأتي بعده فعل آخر رئيسي، مثال:
Ali is playing basketball.
يلعب عليّ كرة السلة
Maria and Ahmad are studying for their exam.
ماريّا وأحمد يدرسان للامتحان
They were playing with their friends.
كانوا يلعبون مع أصدقائهم

Sarah is a very beautiful girl.
سارة فتاةٌ جميلةٌ جداً
You are my best friend.
أنت أعزّ أصدقائي
I am studying very hard for the exams next week.[٢]
إنني أدرس بجدّ من أجل الامتحانات الأسبوع المقبل
Am I wrong?
هل أنا مخطىء؟
It seems that they are having so much fun at the party.
يبدو أنهم يستمتعون كثيراً في الحفلة
Adam isn’t a doctor, he is a nurse.
آدم ليس طبيباً، إنّه ممرض
Ahmad is playing football with the boys in the park.
أحمد يلعب كرة القدم مع أصدقائه في الحديقة
Is your father a politician?
هل والدك سياسي؟
My parents are not at home right now.
والديّ ليسوا بالمنزل حالياً
My teachers are nice.
إنّ أساتذتي لطفاء
We are having dinner now, I will call you later.
إننا نتناول العشاء الآن، سأتصل بك لاحقاً
My brother is a rash person.
أخي شخصٌ متهوّر
There are mice in the house.
يوجد فئرانٌ في المنزل
My car is in the garage.
سيارتي موجودة في الكراج
Maria isn’t watching the movie with us, she is doing her homework.
ماريا لا تشاهد الفيلم معنا، إنّها تؤدي واجباتها المدرسية
Is Ali a student at our university?
هل عليّ طالبٌ في جامعتنا؟
Are they coming tonight?
هل سيأتون الليلة؟
Ahmed and Ayman are not businessmen.
أحمد وأيمن ليسا رجال أعمال
I’m not happy that we moved to another city.
لست سعيداً بانتقالنا إلى مدينة أخرى
The temperature today is below zero.
. درجة الحرارة اليوم تحت الصّفر
They are planning to get married in the summer.
إنّهم يخططون للزواج في الصيف
فعل to be في الماضي

It was cold and windy yesterday.
كان الجوّ عاصفاً وبارداً بالأمس
We were waiting for the bus.
كنا ننتظر الحافلة
Muna and I were at this restaurant last week.
كنت أنا ومنى في هذا المطعم الأسبوع الماضي
Were you at your house last night?
هل كنت في منزلك ليلة البارحة؟
My father was watering the plants in the garden.
كان أبي يسقي النباتات في الحديقة
Were you at the party last night?
هل كنت موجوداً في الحفلة ليلة أمس
I was very busy at work yesterday.
كنت مشغولاً جداً بالعمل البارحة
Laila was crying after she got a bad mark in the exam.
كانت ليلى تبكي بعد أن حصلت على علامة سيئة في الامتحان
She wasn’t happy with the new color of her room.
لم تكن سعيدة باللون الجديد لغرفتها
Ayman wasn’t an engineer, He was an accountant.
لم يكن أيمن مهندساً، بل كان محاسباً
I was very sad about the death of my dog.
كنت حزيناً جداً لموت كلبي
My boss was in a bad mood yesterday.
كان مديري في مزاجٍ سيئ أمس
Mona was here an hour ago.
كانت منى هنا قبل ساعة
It wasn't very cold last night.
لم يكن الجو بارداً جداً ليلة أمس
Where are you from?
من أي بلدٍ أنت؟
He was living in Paris for the last 20 years.
كان يعيش في باريس في العشرين سنةٍ الماضية
We weren’t ready to start the race.
لم نكن مستعدين لبدء السباق
We were waiting for the train.
كنّا نتتظر القطار
They weren’t at the park, they were at the museum.
لم يكونوا في الحديقة، بل كانوا في المتحف
Was it raining last night?
هل كان الجوّ ماطراً ليلة أمس؟
