تُستخدم الصفات (Adjectives) لوصف الأسماء و الضمائر وتُستخدم أيضاً للمقارنة بين شيئين يحملان نفس الصفة وتُسمى صفة مقارنة، أو لمقارنة شيء بمجموعة أشياء وتُسمى صفة تفضيل. تنقسم الصفات إلى صفات طويلة وأخرى قصيرة، حيث تكون طويلة إذا:
- كانت تتكون من مقطعيين صوتيين ولا ينتهي الثاني بحرف y، مثل: boring(ممل)، modern (حديث)
- كانت تتكون من ثلاثة مقاطع صوتية أو أكثر، مثل: important (مهم)، dangerouse (خطير)
المقارنة باستخدام الصفات الطويلة Comparative
في حالة المقارنة بين اسمين أو شيئين باستخدام صفة طويلة يجب إضافة كلمة More قبل الصفة الطويلة ومن ثم كلمة than.

التفضيل باستخدام الصفات الطويلة Superlative
في حالة التفضيل بين اسمين أو شيئين باستخدام صفة طويلة يجب إضافة كلمة Most قبل الصفة الطويلة وقبلها كلمة the.
